Bloodborne Pathogens

Disposal techniques, devices and locations

Do not eat, drink, apply make up or lip balm, touch your contact lenses, or use tobacco products in a potentially contaminated area.

Recognize symbols that warn of potential contamination. The symbol below should be displayed on any container, room or area that may contain biological hazards.

WASH YOUR HANDS!!!!!

Even though your hands may have been covered by rubber gloves, you should wash after ANY possible exposure (which is just about every call). Use a disinfectant hand product that will kill germs and biological agents.

DO NOT touch door handles or other items to get to the sink or even touch the faucet before you are decontaminated!

Wash with warm water for at least 30 seconds. Singing happy birthday takes about the same time

Remember.... it is not only to decontaminate yourself for your own wellbeing. Proper washing keeps you from spreading BBPs to coworkers and the next patient.

"If you see a sign in a restaurant bathroom that requires employees to wash their hands, what makes you think you shouldn't as well?"
